December Movies

OK. so I'm a little behind on movies.
But, I really haven't seen a new movie until this past Tuesday, the 15h.
I saw---"Brothers." It's a very good film, sad and sweet at the same time.
Rating------*** stars because it is a very deep subject.

This past weekend, I got to see "Avatar," on 3-D IMAX.
Wow, it is so visually stunning and lots of action, too. It blew my mind, man.
I'd see it on the regular screen, too.
Definitely worth the extra money and gets ****4stars. WOW!!!!!

Tuesday-----NOV. 24------"The Blind Side"

Based on a book--------"The Blind Side" was everything I was looking for in a holiday movie.
You feel good when you exit the theatre, not wondering what you just saw and if it was good or not.
Trust me, go see it. You will be glad you did.

RATING------*** stars---3

NEXT WEEK: who knows?

Week of NOV. 20-----"NEW MOON"

OK, so I saw the first movie----"Twilight"---read all the books. So, I had to see this new movie.
UGH!!!!! I thought the first movie was filled with teenage angst, but this was much worse.
Twihard fan that I am, it was 2hrs.+ worth of agony.
The only real bright spot in the film was the addition of Jakub Black's character as Bella's best friend. He was really a standout!!!!! Loved the wolfpack or should I say, sixpack!!!
I hope the next movie ---"Eclipse" is better. It should be, more action in the book.
Rating----**1/2 stars--two and a half if you can stand it.

Tues.----Nov. 10---A Christmas Carol

A lot like the book, almost. It's 3-D, and lots of fun!!!! I really enjoyed it and gave it *** 3 stars for the animation. Dark like London was, but very cheerful, like the book.
SEE THE MOVIE, READ THE BOOK!!!!!! by CHARLES DICKENS.

Week of NOV. 3

This week, nothing really good was playing at the Regal, so I went to the Georgia Theatre Company's dollar movie---actually $1.99, where my daughter works.
YES, you can go see movies you have already seen. Don't you rent then when they come out on DVD? I do, and watch them over and over again on HBO, etc.
I loved and still love------"The Time Traveller's Wife."
Based on the book, you have to see it again to recognize it for what it is, a truly romantic movie.
It is romantic without being too sappy, unlike "The Way We Were."
I would give this ***--three stars just for the lead actors----Eric Bana and Racheal McAdams.
They really made me believe in their love.
NEXT WEEK---------is it too early for Christmas movies?

Halloween Week

I went to see---"Cirque du Freak---The Vampire's Assistant." This movie was based on a series of young adult books called The Vampire's Assistant.
WELL, got to the movie and the sound wasn't working, then the picture went out and then the sound back and forth for about a half hour. I went and complained, it was fixed, and the manager gave me 2 tickets for future use for my inconvenience.
About the movie, it was lots of fun!!!!! Kids will love it, parents don't worry, it's PG-13 and not too scary, as I'm a big wimp when it comes to scary movies.
Next week, a even scarier movie? Or Michael Jackson?

Week of Oct. 19---Amelia

OK, so I didn't get to see a movie on Tuesday, but I did force my hubby, Artie to take me to see the new Hilary Swank movie----"Amelia." I didn't really have to force him, he likes aero pictures.
I really enjoyed learning some new things about her, but I didn't think we needed to know all the other stuff about her relationships with men, women, etc.
I would have liked to have seen more in depth how she decided to become a pilot.
The actors, Hilary Swank----Amelia and Richard Gere------George Putnam were fantastic and worked well together. Academy Award should go to Best Cinematography, just go see it and let me know if you agree.
Next Tuesday, we'll have to see if I feel like a scary movie or a romance.

Week of October 12--Kid Flicks

This week I was fortunate to see two movies inspired by books---"Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs--3D" and "Where the Wild Things Are.""
Both movies where for children, but adults will like them, too.
The first film being animated but with great special effects and the last one visually stunning. Cloudy was nothing like the book, it really was just silly. Kids will love it.
But, Wild Things, well-----rarrgh!!! I mean, just how many live action monsters do you know? I particularly loved the voices they gave to the monsters in "Wild Things." You might just recognize a few. The movie was much more than the book, kind of like what happens next to Max.
To rate them, I give Cloudy a **1/2 ----two and a half stars.
Wild Things gets a growling *** three stars.

Next week----Oct. 19, back to scary films----"Paranormal Activity"

Tuesday, Oct. 6

Used my Dollar coupon to get a MED. popcorn.

"Zombieland" was funny as hell!!!!! I laughed my face off, literally. There were only a few people in the audience probably due to the graphic nature of the film. Think lots and lots of blood, but it was so funny you forgot to be scared. I especially loved the Rules for Encountering Zombies. Priceless!!!!
*** stars and an ugggghhhhhhh.

Tuesday, Sept. 29

OK, had a free SODA coupon and a $1 popcorn coupon and was allowed to use both!!!!
AS for the movie I saw----"Pandorum," skip it. It's not even as good as "I Am Legend" and the zombies are not as attractive either.
WASTE of time!!!!!
Next week, another sci-fi movie---"Zombieland."

Tuesday Popcorn Movie Day

This week I attended the movie----"Love Happens," on Tuesday and "Surrogates," on Friday.
NOW what I liked about the first movie------nothing except using a free movie ticket from Regal Crown Club and a free popcorn ticket. The movie was dull and boring and sappy. *One Star and that is being generous!!!!

"Surrogates, " was much better-------lots of action and not too much violence. It had a PG-13 rating and was just a good popcorn movie, the kind you like to see over and over again. I especially liked the premise that everyone stays home and lets their surrogates interract for them. It's like that now with the internet, texting, and ipods isn't it?

Next week--another sci-fi? "Pandorum," I think.
See ya Tuesday!!!!!!!

Tuesday Popcorn Movie Day

This week I did not see a movie on Tuesday, but saw it on Friday. I'm not changing the blog, just sometimes things come up.
This week I saw the CGI (computer graphic image) film-----"9"
I'm still a little confused about the whole thing, then I thought we don't have to analyze it, just enjoy it for what it is, a visually stunning animated film. It was kinda like a cross between ----"The Nightmare Before Christmas" meets "The Secret of Nimh." Hope that peaks your curiosity and you go and see it. Go and see it because it might just win the Best Animated Picture.
Next week is a choice between the new Jennifer Anniston movie and whatever is at the 12:05pm movie. That is the one I go to. Look for me in the front center row eating the Medium popcorn.

Tuesday, September 8

The purpose of this blog is to review and categorize movies seen on Tuesday at the Regal Cinema in Augusta, GA. Tuesday is also Dollar Popcorn Day. I chose movies because my daughter's work at a movie theatre and my oldest daughter is a film afficionado.

This past Tuesday I was fortunate enough to see the new Sandra Bullock movie----"All About Steve." OK, some of the critics didn't like the movie, but what do they know?
I really liked this film because the main character---Mary, played by Sandra Bullock, was just a very optimistic person. Nothing seemed to bother her, she had a positive outlook on life and was just a little too perky. She didn't seem to have any close friends, but this did not seem to be an obstacle to here being happy.
She wasn't married, or dating either.
Now, I have been married most of my like, at least for 30-odd years and I like that she was happy just with herself. To be happy with yourself is very important.
Friends come and go but you have to love yourself to love others. Isn't that right?
Anyway, if anyone reads this and likes this, please come to the Theatre next Tuesday, the 15th and I will be deciding to see what's out. Or, write me back and tell me your favorite movie you liked this summer or one you may want to see.
